Awhile back, someone at Enterbrain had posted a survey for Rpg Maker users about their product. They’ve released the results of 1,400 respondents on the japanese Tkool/Tsukuru (Rpg Maker) blog over at Famitsu. One thing I found very interesting is that the majority of people wanted the next program to be 2D, and available on something other than the PC.

The Nintendo DS was in the lead as far as consoles went, which I think already has a RPG Maker-style program for it? 10 questions total were asked.
