Strangest thing you’ve done in RPG Maker?
I think we might have a winner! You’ve seen Hima’s shooters, and Anaryu’s games. Maybe even that person who took Irrlight to pretend to make Rpg Maker XP 3d. Sandgolem took it to another level by turning Rpg Maker XP (not VX sadly) into a fake 3D system for the lofi RPG contest at RPGDX.net.
Ever played the Bard’s Tale series (not the more recent), or any of SSI’s gold box games? Those were a really popular Dungeons & Dragons old computer game series. Sandgolem ported over their way of drawing maps to RMXP.
The skyboxes to the right draw both a background, and animated roof [map layers 1 & 2]. The wall tiles draw walls in the distance, based on the tiles where the player is looking. Those aren’t the real graphics - just things he uses in the map editor. Objects are drawn similar to them too - you can see them in the distance. While his game isn’t quite done yet, it definitely seems to be taking the crown for oddest use of Rpg Maker.
Have you seen anything else that’s quite different from a japanese console RPG it was supposed to be used to make?
