6 tips to get more project replies
Sick of seeing project topics rarely get replies? Here’s six simple tips anyone can use to make their project threads more popular:
- Ask questions. People reading your thread will only reply if you give them something to respond to. Don’t ask them to read everything, simple things like “How do my new screenshots look?” will do. Every response you make should also be asking more questions.
- Don’t overuse spoiler tags. There’s no reason to hide your best marketing materials. Put a couple screenshots and an amazing storyline summary (1 or 2 paragraphs, no more!) at the very top.
- Show off the good stuff, and only the good. Keep your posts simple. No one likes a wall of text. Most of the “project requirements” in stickies can be a snooze fest! Have a friend look through your posts and point out what might make them click away.
- Participate on the forums. It’s a community. You can’t expect everyone to leap in joy at your latest project when they don’t even know who you are.
- Get your friends to post in your topic. Some project threads won’t start without a little help. Poke your friends to hop by your game’s post and comment, asking a few questions too. More people might join in the conversation.
- Time your postings. Every message board has a “posts per page” setting. Try to only post your most notable updates at the start of a new page, or else they’ll get lost in the sea of replies. This same tip works very well with Screenshot threads.
Good luck with getting attention to your RMVX games! Here’s a bonus #7: Be patient. It can take awhile for some projects to really take off, keep at it. But on the other hand, sometimes your games just aren’t as interesting as you thought they’d be.
